How to improve your intimate relationship in 3 steps

Understand the emotional and sexual cycle you’re caught in, how to step out of it, and how to bring back the attraction between you.

The Button Factory, AucklandMonday 16 November and Monday 30 November · 6–9pm$25 per couple · $19 single

One of you feels unwanted. The other feels pressured. You’re both lonely.

If you’ve been together a long time, there’s a good chance you’re caught in a cycle you were never taught about. It happens when you try to talk, and it happens in the bedroom. This workshop shows you what it is.

Maybe you’re good together, but you don’t feel close.

You run a home well. You’re kind to each other, mostly. But somewhere along the way you became a very good team and stopped being lovers. The conversations are about logistics, the touch is a peck on the way out the door, and sex has slipped down the list.

You still love each other, and you miss feeling close.

Or maybe you keep having the same fight.

One of you reaches, the other pulls away. One wants to talk it through, the other needs a minute. The more one pushes, the further the other goes, and you both end up feeling alone and far apart.

Neither of you is to blame. You’re both caught in the same cycle, and you can learn to step out of it.

Come and learn what’s happening between you, and what you can do about it.

What you’ll learn

i.

What the emotional cycle is

One of you reaches, the other retreats. The more one reaches, the more the other retreats. You’ll see how it starts, why it keeps going, and which part each of you plays.

ii.

What the sexual cycle is

It’s the same cycle in the bedroom. One of you reaches for sex, the other feels pressure and pulls away. You’ll learn why this happens and why nobody is the bad guy.

iii.

How the two cycles feed each other

When you feel emotionally disconnected, sex feels less appealing. When sex has gone, it’s harder to feel close. You’ll understand how one affects the other in your relationship.

iv.

Tools to step out of the cycle

How to name the cycle when it starts, say what’s underneath, and ask for space or reassurance in a way your partner can hear.

v.

What polarity is

Attraction comes from the differences between you. When you become too similar, passion fades. You’ll learn what polarity is and how to bring it back.

How the workshop works

This is a teaching workshop, not group therapy. Tarisha and Mark teach three steps.

  1. The emotional cycle: why you keep having the same fight, and how to step out of it.
  2. The sexual cycle: why one of you reaches and the other pulls away, and how to step out of it.
  3. Polarity: how to bring back the attraction between you.

You can ask your questions about how to bring the intimacy back and what you need to do.

Often one of you is keener to come than the other. That’s normal. You don’t both need to feel excited, only willing to come.

For the partner who isn’t sure: you’ll sit, listen and learn.

Come together, or come on your own

It doesn’t matter if you come alone or as a couple. If you come on your own, you can go home and explain the cycle to your partner. Then you can decide together what to do next.

And if you’re not in a relationship right now, you’ll know how to make your next relationship better.

“She helped us to realise the negative patterns that we were both doing and practising within our relationship. She gave us the tools to make better choices before heading to that ‘stuck’ state. Questions

Questions people ask

Do we have to share in front of the group?

No. You can ask a question if you want to, and you don’t have to say anything.

Are there any sexual practices in the room?

No. We talk about desire and how the sexual cycle works. Nothing explicit happens in the room.

Can I come on my own?

Yes, solo is okay. A single ticket is $19. You can go home and explain the cycle to your partner, or use what you learn to make your next relationship better.

Is this right for us?

It’s for people in a long-term relationship who care about each other and want to feel closer. If you’re in a crisis or in constant conflict, book a free call first and we’ll talk about what would help you most.

What if my partner isn’t sure about coming?

That’s very common. One of you is usually keener than the other. Your partner doesn’t need to feel excited, only willing to come, sit and listen. They won’t be asked to speak. You can also come on your own first, or book a free call and we’ll answer any questions the two of you have.

Do we have to be in crisis to come?

No. Many couples come because they’re good together and want to feel closer. Others come because they keep having the same fight. You don’t need to be in crisis, and you don’t need to pretend everything is fine.

What if things are tense between us right now?

That’s common, and it’s a good reason to come. You’ll see the cycle that’s creating the tension, and why neither of you is to blame.
